Joan offers a combination of strategic thinking and operational experience from her more than 30 years in leadership positions in entrepreneurship, media, and nonprofit organizations. Her combination of business acumen and deep knowledge of mission-based work helps clients identify opportunities to explore new markets and create greater impact by leveraging new and existing resources.

Joan currently serves as the CEO of LaunchBio, a national nonprofit network that supports life science incubators in the leading biotech hubs: Cambridge, MA; San Francisco; San Diego; New York; and Research Triangle Park, NC. She previously led the Durham, NC-based Council for Entrepreneurial Development, the largest and longest-running entrepreneurial support organization in the country, where she coached dozens of startups and launched a comprehensive mentorship program.

Joan began her career as a journalist, winning both the George Foster Peabody Award and the duPont-Columbia Journalism Award for excellence in reporting. She was the general manager of public radio station WUNC in Chapel Hill, NC and advised NPR, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and APR's "Marketplace" on program strategy. Joan has an undergraduate degree from Middlebury College and a Master's in Public Health from the University of Michigan.
