Wendy has served as a Controller, CFO, and trusted advisor in a variety of industries over the course of her career. Wendy is a Certified Professional Coach, working with leaders and managers to enhance leadership effectiveness and impact. She is also certified by the Center for Creative Leadership to administer 360-degree feedback surveys.
Prior to joining CREO, Wendy founded Laxton CFO Services LLC to provide financial strategies, tools, and intelligence to arm leadership teams with the most impactful knowledge to make decisions and take actions to move organizations forward in rewarding and meaningful ways. As a result of her work, Wendy was recognized by the Charlotte Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners as its 2013 Rising Star Award Winner. This award is presented to a business owner who has demonstrated entrepreneurial creativity and determination in successfully managing a business that is less than 5 years old.
Wendy started her career in public accounting with Peat Marwick Main & Co (now KPMG) as an auditor and consultant. After 5 years in public accounting, she joined Tyler 2 Construction in Charlotte as Controller to this emerging $2M general contractor. Wendy went on to become the CFO, contributing to the sustained success of Tyler 2 as it grew to over $35M in revenues during her 15 years there. During that time, Wendy was recognized by The Charlotte Business Journal in 2003 as a “40 Under 40” for her professional achievements and community leadership. She was honored again by The Charlotte Business Journal in 2004 with the Top 25 Women in Business Achievement Award.
Wendy believes in the value of professional networking and has taken a leadership role in many of the organizations to which she has belonged. Wendy is Past-President of Women Executives, Leadership Charlotte, and the Construction Financial Management Association-Charlotte Chapter. She has served on state and national professional association committees. She is a member of the Charlotte Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (NCACPA).
Wendy graduated summa cum laude from Western Carolina University with a dual major in Accounting and Computer Information Systems. While at Western Carolina, she was a member of the women’s basketball and softball teams. Wendy was a volunteer youth basketball and soccer coach for over 15 years. In her spare time, she enjoys rowing, spending time with her family, and embarking on new challenges.
